Tuesday 12th November 2013; 7pm to 8.30pm,
CCA Cinema Room, Glasgow:
An Evening with Tawona Sithole
Poet, playwright, musician – Tawona Sithole started writing, performing, and publishing in 2006. His poetry has since found wide publication in the UK and abroad. Tawona has facilitated workshops in communities and schools, and has enjoyed theatre commissions, radio appearances, residency, and studio recording.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Tawona shares his heritage with others to keep himself grounded; in this way, he also helps to increase awareness of the lesser-known perspective of an African in Glasgow. He has developed a contemporary style of expression through mbira (a traditional Zimbabwean music instrument), spoken word, and creative writing and drama. Often using humour to challenge stereotypes and misinformation, he draws on challenging experiences (such as racism) to try to link cultures together (seeing creative expression as a celebration for building positive self-esteem).
Tawona is also founder of the Seeds of Thought arts group, and will discuss their pioneering work (promoting creative writing and performance in Glasgow).
Tickets: £6 (£3 for concessions). Free to SWC members.
