Irish/Scottish-Gaelic/Scots Writers’ Night
Presented by Conradh na Gaeilge Glaschú and Irish Pages, in partnership with the Scottish Writers’ Centre, and as part of Féile na Gaeilge Glaschú 2013 – Glasgow’s Irish Language Festival.
A unique evening celebrating the written word in Irish (Gaeilge), Scottish-Gaelic (Gaidhlig), and Scots. This event will feature the return of renowned Irish (Gaoth Dobhair) poet Máire Wren (after her reading at Oíche na Scríbhneoirí, Féile na Gaeilge Glaschú, 2012). Also visiting from the County Donegal Gaelteacht, a place with robust connections to the Irish in Scotland, is poet Colette Ni Ghallchoir (reading from her collections Idir dhá Ghleann and An Chéad Chló).
From Scotland, two authors well-known to Glasgow audiences will be reading. Aongas MacNeacail is a Scots-Gaelic speaker from Skye, and one of the foremost contemporary poets in the three tongues of Scotland. He is the author of five collections of poetry, most recently Deanamh Gaire ris a Chleoc/Laughing at the Clock. Aongas has a forthcoming pamphlet of poems in Scots. Andy Philip has published two highly regarded collections of poetry, and is one of the two Scots Language Editors of Irish Pages.
All the writers above are contributors to the recently published edition of the Irish Pages literary journal, which will have its Scottish launch at this event.
Stories and poems will be introduced in English as well as Gaeilge/Gaidhlig, to help non-fluent speakers.
This is a free event, open to all.
