‘Writers in Scottish Literary Organisations’ – Writing for Children with Linda Strachan (Society of Authors)
Our second discussion event for 2013, focusing on prominent members of literary organisations, brings to the SWC Linda Strachan – a committee member of the Society of Authors in Scotland. How has Linda managed to balance her work at the Society of Authors, along with writing so many books for children? Hear how it’s done, and what kind of support the Society of Authors provides for all writers.
Linda has written over sixty books for all ages, interests, and abilities, and has helped to inspire thousands of young people through her author visits and writing workshops. Perhaps best known for the Hamish McHaggis series for young readers, and her award winning books for teenagers including Spider and Dead Boy Talking, Linda has also written picture books, books for reluctant readers, non-fiction books, books for educational publishers, and a writing handbook for aspiring and newly published writers (Writing for Children).
She has presented to schools, libraries, and festivals in the UK and abroad, including the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Bath Children’s Festival. Linda has recently visited Sydney, Australia, to speak with adult writers there. She has also toured schools in North Island, New Zealand, with the New Zealand Book Council.
Tickets: £6 (£3 for SWC members and concessions).
