Our sexuality defines our identity and how we interact with the world, not merely through our desires and fantasies but also our insecurities and fears. The perspectives of the LGBT community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual) are key to understanding the human condition.

Hosted by rising Scottish literary star, Kirsty Logan; drop in and listen to a range of LGBT poetry and prose from some of Scotland’s finest emerging writers (in diverse fields; from Mainstream, to Science Fiction and Fantasy). It is as important, if not more so, that straight as well as gay people take the opportunity to keep in touch with a broad, inclusive view of contemporary Scottish writing.

Kirsty authored the story collection, The Rental Heart & Other Fairytales (Salt, 2014). Her first novel, The Gracekeepers (about a circus boat in a flooded world), will be released across the UK, US, and Canada, in early 2015. She has worked as the literary editor for The List, and is currently a mentor for teenage writers.

THE….Sodomite Hal Duncan!! (sic), as a homophobic hatemail once dubbed him, is the Glasgow-based, award-winning author of Vellum and Ink. Other works include novels, short fictions, poetry, non-fictions, musicals, and collaborations with the bands Aereogramme and The Dead Man’s Waltz.

Elizabeth Reeder, originally from Chicago, now calls Scotland home. Her short writing has been widely published in journals and anthologies, and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 as stories, dramas, and abridgements. Elizabeth’s debut novel, Ramshackle, is published by Freight Books and was shortlisted for the 2013 Scottish Mortgage Investment Best First Book Award, the 2012 Saltire First Book Award, and longlisted for the 2013 Author’s Club Best First book. Her second novel, Fremont, is published by Kohl Publishing. Elizabeth teaches on the Creative Writing programme at the University of Glasgow.

Katherine McMahon is an Edinburgh based performance poet, who has reveled in pub performances and open mics across the city (as well as further afield). Katherine has been a finalist – or winner – in slams run by the Edinburgh University Literature Society: Utter! and Tea Fuelled. Crucially, she also won – at nine years of age – a Blue Peter badge for poetry. Her first pamphlet, Treasure in the History of Things (Stewed Rhubarb press), is paired with a CD album in collaboration with musician and sound designer Fiona Keenan. Katherine helped operate the successful theatre company, Theatre Paradok (working in a variety of roles, from publicity officer to set designer and stage manager). She has a degree in Social Anthropology, and enjoys baking elaborate desserts.

Tickets: £6 (£3 for concessions) at the door. Free to SWC members.
