Autumn Speakeasy

swc-events

An evening of poetry recitals and short stories in English, Gaelic, and Scots, from SWC members. Reading one’s own work is a vital experience – it is a means to gain feedback and cultivate a distinct voice. Everyone is welcome, members and non-members alike; stop by and experience new literature in action.

The Scottish Writers’ Centre is a countrywide resource, which supports national writers and promotes Scotland’s vibrant literary culture. Operated solely by volunteers, the SWC is therefore ‘by writers, for writers’ – the organisation provides a space for writers to meet, share ideas and experiences about the craft, and learn from those further advanced.

This is a free event, open to all.

Send your poems and short stories to us, in any of the languages of Scotland. Please test the length of your submission by first reading it aloud to yourself. For poems, we must insist on no more than 5 minutes; for prose, no more than 12 minutes.

We hold a separate email address, for the purposes of streamlining, to which you should send your works:

feedback (at) glasgowsurrealist (dot) com.

Usually and miraculously, we seem to obtain the appropriate number of readers without having to turn anyone away – but remember, this is your chance to field your very best work. These evenings are always a lot of fun, and provide the chance to hear truly original material from brand new voices. Get writing!
