Magi Gibson

Come along, and meet the woman who taught Alan Bissett everything he knows!

Maggi Gibson has held three Scottish Arts Council Creative Writing Fellowships, and one Royal Literary Fellowship. As well as being a successful children’s writer, she is well known and regarded for her poetry. Magi’s sequence, The Senile Dimension, won the Scotland on Sunday/Women 2000 Writing Prize. Her work appears in Scottish Love Poems and Modern Scottish Women Poets (both Canongate) and The Twentieth Century Book of Scottish Poetry (Edinburgh University Press), as well as in numerous other anthologies and literary magazines. Magi’s third poetry collection, Wild Women of a Certain Age (Chapman), is now in its fourth print run.

Maggi has written three novels for children aged 9-14. The Seriously Sassy series (Puffin) features the fun and feisty Sassy Wilde: eco-warrior and singer-songwriter. Seriously Sassy was a Green Book Festival Prize finalist in the US in 2010, and a Waterstones Book of the Month. It has been translated into French and German, and the online Sassy Gang has members all around the world (from Canada to Korea!). Maggie has just finished a teen novel set in the future – Flame (part of a trilogy dealing with the aftermath of climate change catastrophe). She has taught Children’s Writing with the Arvon Foundation and the University of Glasgow.

Tickets: £6 (£3 for concessions). Free to SWC members.
